iPhone SDK… grr!

August 7, 2008

So I had this cool idea for a little app that I thought would sell relatively well, the only problem is that it’s NOT possible to write with the published SDK. It shouldn’t have been that difficult really, I just wanted to take some pictures at some set intervals of time, but no… there’s only one way to use the camera on the iPhone.

Any way, back to the drawing board for applications to create. Still a little miffed about spending so much time trying to figure out how to make it work only to find out that it’s not possible.

How are you liking Objective-C? I’m learning Smalltalk (Squeak) for my next programming project and so far I’m enjoying it.

Actually, I like Objective-C a lot… I dare say it might even be my favorite language that I’ve learned (I’ve learned BASIC, C, C++, C#, Java, LISP, Pascal, VB.NET – I think that’s about it).

Cocoa is a pretty daunting so far though and it’s been a learning curve to get used to how things are done in the Apple world. However, once you get the basics they apply all over the place – so that’s good. From my limited experience it is one of the most consistent APIs that I’ve seen.
